What is a Key Grab?

The Key Grab is a challenge in which balloonists fly in from out of town to Benalla Airport, where there is a Key cutout on top of a pole, lift the key win a prize. The pilots have to use their skill to maneuver the Balloon to the pole and try to grab the Key to win the prize! Great display of pilot skills and the art of steering the balloon with the wind.

5:00am – Morning Competition Briefing for competitors 

6:45am – Key Grab task. Balloons launch from an area outside the Airport. Choosing a launch spot that will give them best direction and chance to reach the key on the pole at the Airport. The best place to watch is at the Benalla airport.

8:00 – Breakfast for spectators and competitors 

9:00am – Tethered RAAF Balloon on display.

9am – 1pm Benalla Airport air display and Aviation Museum
